Top 10 Best & Worst Anti-Phishing Web Registrars

The performance of registrars in decommissioning domain names connected to fraud scams is all over the map. A “brandjacking” report released last month by MarkMonitor is the first to include a list of the top 10 best and worst lists of registrar performance in revoking domain names connected to phishing scams.

Domain name registrars can play a crucial role in getting phishing sites shut down, as most phishing sites use some kind of Web site name in their scam. According to the latest stats from the Anti-Phishing Working Group, 84 percent of scam sites spotted in August used a registered Web site name. Choosing a Registrar?

Select the right registrar - Register domain names with a good registrar. Do they respond to email queries within a reasonable time? Will they respond if you have a serious problem? Do they charge you for transferring domains to another registrar? Do they keep your domain names hostage (without an investigation) if there is a complaint?

Keep your domain records accurate - Make sure that all your domain contact information is accurate. ICANN agreement with domain registrars empowers them to take your domain name away if the contact information is inaccurate. It is very important that you respond to registrar's inquiries regarding any inaccurate information in your domain records.

Lock your domain name records - Lock Your Domain Names from being transferred and / or modified. You can do this from the registrar's domain name management interface.
